Savannah Meade, the author, discovered that women did fight in the Civil War. She
has uncovered a story about one such woman that fought at Pickett's Charge! Meet
Adell in "And She Fought At Gettysburg". A head strong, Plantation owners daughter.
What would motivated her to fight? Then in "Only Ghosts Came Home", a sequel to
"And She Fought At Gettysburg", follow the war into Culpeper, up the Erie Canal to
Johnson's Island, and experience what a prison camp was like. Experience what it
was like to come home feeling like half the person you were when you left to go to
war!
Our nations history is important for us to understand and it is not always written
accurately in our history books in school. To the victor go the spoils. Even an
accurately written account of history, can leave questions. Savannah believes that
true historical events can be understood and appreciated better by our young reader
today through historical stories that allow the reader to visualize the event."
